The picture shows a Man resting on a balcony while a dove across the sky with their wings open. I needed patience and speed to capture the perfect scene.

The International Photography Awards (IPA) is one of the most important photography competitions in the world. In this contest, based in Los Angeles (USA), take part prominent professional and amateur photographers from all over the world. This year’s 2010 entries spanned 103 countries worldwide with approximately 15,000 photographs. Jurors had the challenging task of reducing that number to 330 winners from all the categories. The photographers participate in two groups: professionals and non-professionals, which in turn are divided into 63 sub-categories or themes. My work ” 2000 Years ” was awarded with Honorable Mention in ” Historic Architecture ” category Professional.

The picture ” 2000 Years ” was taken in October 2008 in the ruins of the Roman Forum in Rome, Italy. After a sunny day, came suddenly a storm threat. The sky became dramatic and the panorama showed the relentless passage of time. With a special white balance on my camera, I could highlight and capture the scene.

The National Geographic International (USA) has chosen my photo “In the deep the forest” in his section ” The Daily Dozen ” in August (see August-Week 4). The photo was taken in the nature reserve Tierpark Goldau in the mountains of central Switzerland in August 2008. I wanted to take a photo of this elusive animal in its natural habitat. I spent several hours behind him. Suddenly, just below a beam of light through the foliage of the forest, appeared and landed a few seconds for me. Just got this image.

The National Geographic (Germany) awarded my photo “ Solitar ” in the competition Readers’ Photographs best picture in December 2009. The photo had been made in Prague in winter 2007. The picture “ Solitar ” is a casual and spontaneous capture near St. Vitus Cathedral and the old Royal Palace. Strong winter light, shadows and a door – All on a wall; a highly subjective reality. A scene striking enough to resist.

From 18 February until 18 May, the exhibition Discover Embrach from a Colombian Perspective (entdecken Sie Embrach aus kolumbianischen Perspektive) took place at the premises of the municipality of Embrach. Twenty photographs of the Swiss village were shown in order to make the people rediscover and revalue their village. I always say: the beauty is there, just look for it, look for small details. Swiss people had not only the opportunity to be rediscovered, but also be seen from a very Latin viewpoint.

The Swiss Magazine COOP chose my picture “ Vatican angle 0° ” in the photo contest Play of Light (Lichtspiele) for the 10 finalist photos – out of 1.500 contestants. The picture had been taken in St. Peter’s Square in Rome. I had taken the picture with a long exposure without a tripod (and flush floor ???), looking for an absolute symmetry with the obelisk and the cathedral. Low angles belong to my favorites when I photograph because the subjects become oversized.
